Tarheel Tavern #33
Welcome to the Tarheel Tavern!
The theme for this week's Tarheel Tavern is "Special Days." When I put in my request to host the Tavern, it just so happened that the next available slot was the weekend of my wedding anniversary. Anna and I were married on October 9, 1999, and we couldn't be happier. We had an outdoor wedding at her parent's church, and after the reception (which was held there, as well), instead of throwing rice or bird seed, we handed the guests little triangle envelopes. Inside each one was a monarch butterfly, which we all released at the same time. We were then wisked away in a horse-drawn carriage. We've got the pictures stored away somewhere, but one that we've kept out is a picture of both our hands, with our brand new wedding rings, holding each other over the Bible used in the ceremony.
So, that's my Special Day, one of many, and a number of other Tavern patrons have sent in stories of their special days.
Fabulous Firsts
There's a first time for everything...
Mandie over at Captivated by Mandie gives us a pictoral celebration of the birth of her fifth great-niece.
Pratie tells us of a day spent at the farm with Menticia, a fifth-grader that she mentors.
Mel Umbarger takes some time out of the kitchen to tell us about how the Tavern theme for this week reminded her of her wedding day, which brought to mind a recent "discussion" she had with her mother over posting recipies to her blog.
Billy the Blogging Poet sends in
a little story about his first roomate.
Laurie at ...slowly she turned compares her mother's recent first time experience at an outdoor art festival with her own a couple of decades ago.
Jennifer at Open Book gives us a post entitled Once & Again. It is a tale of first love... and lasting love.
Ron Hudson at 2sides2ron relates his first publication of a translation of French language poetry to English.
And, a Monstrous Smelly Ogre gives us his first impressions of North Carolina from a couple of decades ago.
Days to Remember
Not every special time is a first time.
Erin Monahan can't decide which special day she wants to talk about, since she's had so many. (And isn't that the kind of dilemma you'd want everyone to have?)
Various and Sundries
Here you'll find items that don't really fit with the topic, but the Tavern remains open to all.
Zha K over at A Fine Dish serves up something tasty for the Tavern.
Bora Zivkovic from Science and Politics sent in three submissions! She talks about how NOT having a bank account is a rational decision if you are a poor person. Also, she gives a run down of journalists turned bloggers and rates how good they are. Finally, she gives an analysis of the political breakdown of students at NCSU.
[Update 10-10-2005 10:45]
[Aaack! Bora is a guy, not a gal! Mea culpa!!! Sorry, man. Please forgive me.]
Maximilian Longley from Words Fitly Spoken had some words of his own in support of Bill Bennett's recent comments about abortion and crime.
Thanks for coming by! Keep checking in with the main Tarheel Tavern website to see who's going to be hosting it in the weeks to come!

Great job, Stephen!
Wonderful! Thank you!
[P.S. I am male....]
Bora,
Ack! Sorry about that. I've posted a correction on the page.
And thanks to everyone for the kind words.
Cicero (aka Stephen)
haha Stephen don't feel bad, It took me quite a while to be sure of Bora's gender myself. He does "anonymous blogger" very well. Great job on the Tavern, and happy anniversary too... that butterfly release sounds beautiful.
Very nice! Thanks for hosting this week.
Lovely. Nicely done. Thank you!
